Free People abducts us to Amsterdam

As learning stretches me to the limit right now, I am direly in need of a break. Numerous lecture notes and great tomes pile up on my desk and I start to go nuts. At least I am not the only one who is in despair since all of my friends bury themselves in their studies. What a relief. Nevertheless, I have to alleviate stress. So what can be more de-stressing as doing sports and go and get some fresh air outside?

Since I already met my sportive target for today, I bestow my spare time on Free People's lookbook for this month. The catalogue has a focus on biking in Amsterdam and it whets my appetite for a vernal cycling tour. I'd love nothing better than to leave all these lecture notes behind and to head towards spring. Of course that's just wishful thinking and its way too good to be true. What a pity! Well, at least we got those beautiful shots by Guy Aroch. And by the way: This time Free People won't only sell the presented outfits but also bicycle accessories like saddles, embossed handles or crocheted coatguards. In combination with flowered dresses, fringes and floral prints it's gonna be a wonderful, hippie summer.

Desert fever with Free People

Oktoberfest has long been gone and it's been a while now that I am back in Cologne. But due to this whole enrollment stuff at university I wasn't yet able to provide you with updates. There's so much going on right now including researches for my seminar paper, investigations concerning my new article for the Financial Times and all these day-to-day lectures at university. But I try to avoid that everything outgrows though.

One of my strategies: procrastination. I know it's the wrong way but it buys me time and I get pushed for time at the end of the semester - which is good as I can work more efficient under time pressure. Nevertheless, there are some things which have to be done quickly -like my newspaper articles. But before I hurl myself into research I got a stylish tidbit for you. It's no secret that I have a predilection for Free People. I am stumped about how they manage it again and again that I am intrigued with their lookbooks. Like this time. The October Lookbook has absolutely turned out well thanks to photographer Thomas Wolfe Northcut. So I just can't help it but these pictures are a must.

Camille Rowe presents Intimates Series

When I normally go clubbing, I love to wear edgy or even daring dresses. But as soon as I arrive at home I dig out my grey baggy pants and it feels like I dress in rags. With Free People's new Intimates Series I will undergo a radical change - for sure. I am totally fond of these sheer fabrics and the shot silk. Wearing this homewear, you feel as snug as a bug in a rug and you can vamp at the same time. Can there be anything better?

Camilla Rowe poses super naturally in front of Anthony Nocella's camera - without make-up, rumpled hair and these come-to-bed eyes. The setting is a smart apartment which is well-provided with everything: soft cushions, hand-woven carpets and flowery details. It's just the perfect location to feel comfortable and to underline this wonderful feminine collection.

Free People's Picturesque Lookbook

Apparently, my sympathy for Free People is an open secret. And as I haven't posted about them for ages, the new 2012's March lookbook comes to answer my call. This time, Free People went on a jouney to Vietnam where they enlisted Martha Hunt, Michele Ouellet and the photographers Joshua Allen and Thomas Northcut. And as anticipated, the shots turned out to be amazing: colourful flowing dresses, the picturesque locations of Halong Bay and Hanoi and this wonderful spring feeling which emanates from each page. Just hauntingly beautiful.

Trend Observer: Oversized sweaters

Every year it's the same procedure: When summer turns to fall I rearrange my wardrobe realizing that I have nothing to wear in bad weather. As a matter of routine, I rummage through all fashion magazines in order to spot the new seasonal trends. Yestermorning, I got hold of MATCHES new mag which inspired me to do a post about the upcoming trends. The UK fashion editors pictured a chart of color range with the autumnal colors this year, a spectrum from amber, over scarlet, to aquamarine - colors I can chum up with but nothing surprising. So I cased the joint and went to Zara, H&M and Co. which are full to bursting with the new trends: floppy hats, colorful cropped pants, wide sweaters and transparent blouses. Hence, I subsume the upcoming must-haves in my following posts. Trend 1: Oversized sweaters.

Do you remember the feeling slipping into daddy's or your boyfriend's comfy and way too wide sweater on snowy winter evenings? A bagginess look, which is picked up this autumn by many designers. But as you want to look stylish and not down-and-out, there are some rules to observe:

001. As you do not want to look like your granny, you can wear off-the-shoulder sweaters or sequined micro-minis.

002. Don't store your black leggings yet 'cause black is black. The slim fit contrasts well with a wide sweater, so you cut a good figure. Use some super-high booties and the look ist just perfect.

003. Use them to cover the crotch on your extra flattering jeans if you need some coverage.

004. Oversized sweaters look stunning in combination with some pick-a-boo shorts (leather, lace or whatever) - just add a dash of wickedness.

In the follwing, I tried to portray my rules so you can visualize them. (001 to 004)

So, now it's your turn: What's your opinion about oversized sweaters? And how would you style them, got any ideas?

How to: Summer braid

Ever wanted to learn how to braid this summerly hair style? Here is fp's step by step guide:

Let me know, if you wangled braiding and how it looks on you!! Do you like the style at all?

Just drop-dead gorgeous

Hey gals,
I just came across these wonderful, stylish, colored, upbeat, magnificent (maybe I am spluttering) color props by free people. They announced their new colour line via facebook and I couldn't yet avert my eyes of this summerly articles of clothing. On top, they designed some beautiful accessories, which look fabulous in combination with the garment.

By hook or by crook: I want them. Nevertheless, I think they're quite pricy. The blue Costa Besace bag on the left is prohibitive ($448). But the Coral Cluster Ring is definitely a MUST-HAVE. I posted some "color props" underneath, so what's your favorite?

Today, Free People announced their new March 2011 Catalog online. Like always, I was really curious about it. Result: The look is as hippie-like as usual, what is not bad at all. I got a video of Free People's new collection for you, so you can visualize the articles of clothing better. Maybe the sound is a bit too melancholic, but the video shows fp's new lookbook in a fancy way. I like it a lot. What's your impression of the new collection?

I made a screenshot of fp's online shop so that you can imagine their new collection better. Click here for more.
