If I were in London this winter, I would certainly pay a call on Somerset House. Opening in October, it will be home to the brand new exhibition „Story Teller“ by Tim Walker. As you probably know, Walker is one of the most visually exciting and influential fashion photographers working today. His style is distinctive due to the extravagant scale and ambition of his work as well as his brilliant use of color, fairy tale narratives and stunning use of props. Walker draws his inspiration from everyday life which he transforms into shimmering fantasies. His whimsical narratives transgress the boundaries of reality, yet he does not manipulate his images, he never works in a studio and he only uses natural light. Owing to Walker’s otherness and his rampant ideas, Somerset House now dedicates an unique exhibition to him.
In the meantime, his imaginative productions adorned covers and pages of the world’s leading magazines: British, French, American and Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair, W and The New Yorker among many others. The exhibition will now premier them but it is also a series of events that feature many of Tim Walker’s long-time collaborators and uncover the influences and stories behind his work. The exhibition opens on October 18th 2012 and runs until January 27th 2013, open daily from 10.00 to 18.00 and admission is free – what better excuse to visit!
