My Jeffrey Campbell Love Affair

There's little doubt that Jeffrey Campbell's Litas are highly controversial. The design has managed to work its way to the top of the fashion scene as it's filled with personality and it completes the stylish appearance of almost ever fashionista who wants to issue a clear statement. Lita definitely brings the drama but it's quite versatile at once which is why it has become such a favorite amongst JC Girls - and me.

But despite its roaring success, JC takes a lot of flack as well. One of America's most visited websites, The Daily Beast, dubbed Lita to be "The ugliest shoe in the world" calling them the "Clydesdale hoof of modern footwear". Even bloggers hailed the design as "shoe vom" whilst others refer to them as "something Lady Gaga threw up and then pooped on". The Daily Beast holds Instagram accountable for Lita's succes as they were tagged almost 60.000 times on the social photo-sharing app - "no matter how hideous they may be". It's beyond me why they're so very down on the design as I really adore it and it seems that I am not the only one.

However controversial this topic may be in the end, there is no doubt that the popularity of the shoe speaks for itself: Since its market launch in 2010, the Lita range has sold around 160.000 pairs worldwide. The shoe,  originally released in a mustard yellow colour, costs between $160 - $190 with a current number of 164 different colours and 64 different styles. As the design is pretty 70's, the shoe got named after Lita Ford, lead guitarist of the iconic band "The Runaways". Surprisingly, the shoe didn't initially take off in the way Jeffrey Campbell hoped after the lauch three years ago. But after being picked up by L.A. online giant Nasty Gal, the Litas promptly became a must have item on severel fashion blogs and websites around the globe. Hence, Lita has no false modesty as it evolved into a clear fashion statement and therewith defies all negative criticism.
